On November 6, 2025, Tracegrow Oy introduced REDO-M®, a circular battery-grade manganese product manufactured entirely from recycled feedstocks sourced within the European Union. The announcement addresses Europe’s reliance on imported manganese for its growing battery industry by offering a domestically supplied alternative.
The REDO-M® solution is produced using Tracegrow’s proprietary RETRACER™ process, which extracts and purifies manganese from recycled alkaline batteries and industrial by-products. Independent testing at the University of Oulu confirmed that the process consistently yields manganese sulfate monohydrate meeting the purity standards required by battery manufacturers.
“Europe currently imports nearly all of its battery-grade manganese. REDO-M® demonstrates that we can close this gap with high-purity recycled material sourced and refined within the EU,” said Jaakko Nauha, CEO of Tracegrow. He added that the approach combines resource security with verifiable sustainability measures.
Key attributes of the REDO-M® platform include:
- Process performance validated by the University of Oulu for battery-grade manganese sulfate
- A circular EU supply chain leveraging underutilized regional feedstocks
- A lower carbon footprint compared with conventional mining and refining of virgin ores
- Patent applications covering the extraction and purification methods
Tracegrow is engaging cathode manufacturers, battery recyclers, original equipment manufacturers and investors to validate REDO-M® in production environments and to develop commercial-scale operations. The company is in active discussions to support scaling through direct partnerships and project finance structures.
“European battery manufacturers need domestic manganese sources that balance purity with sustainability,” added Nauha. “REDO-M® offers both, and we’re ready to validate that with production partners who share this vision.”
