AMTE Power was a UK battery cell manufacturer of lithium-ion and sodium-ion cylindrical and pouch cells, known for fast-charging, high-power lithium cells and a certified sodium-ion product for stationary storage and portable power.
AMTE Power produced both lithium-ion and sodium-ion cells engineered for high power density, fast recharge and operational safety. Key lithium products delivered continuous currents above 460 A and pulse currents above 960 A with energy densities around 145–150 Wh/kg and rapid-charge capability (~6 minutes). The sodium-ion Ultra Safe cells are UN38.3 certified and reached ~93% charge in one hour for stationary and portable use. AMTE licensed sodium-ion IP from Faradion and pursued recycled copper in anodes to reduce embedded carbon in cell manufacturing.
AMTE’s product range included Ultra High Power lithium-ion cells for fast-charging EVs and high-discharge applications, Ultra Energy cylindrical cells for stationary storage, Ultra Prime single-use cells for industrial sectors, and Ultra Safe sodium-ion cells for grid and portable energy systems. Applications spanned automotive, energy storage, aerospace, defense and oil & gas.
AMTE Power’s historical ownership included institutional nominee accounts (Pershing Nominees listed as a major shareholder) and individual stakeholders such as Carl Maine. Arena Investors LP provided lending during financial stress. In early 2024 the company entered administration and LionVolt acquired AMTE’s Thurso production assets; a prospective unnamed investor had previously been reported in discussions for a larger equity stake.
