Company Overview

Posco Argentina is a subsidiary of POSCO Holdings established in 2018. It operates lithium extraction and processing at the Hombre Muerto Salt Lake area in Salta and Catamarca provinces and runs a lithium hydroxide plant in Güemes with 25,000 t/year capacity.

Battery Technology

Posco Argentina uses proprietary electrodialysis extraction and GEA evaporation-crystallization to produce high-purity lithium hydroxide, integrating with POSCO Holdings’ end-to-end battery materials business to support next-generation EV cathodes.

Products

High-purity lithium hydroxide for EV battery cathodes, produced at the Güemes facility with 25,000 t/year capacity, supporting manufacturing of batteries for ~600,000 electric vehicles annually.

Recent Projects

Completed first lithium hydroxide plant in Güemes in 2024; second-phase expansion adding 25,000 t/year by 2025; entered a Cooperative Development Agreement with Lithium South Development Corporation for the HMN Li Project.

Investors

Posco Argentina is backed primarily by POSCO Holdings, which acquired mining rights for $280M in 2018, with financing from KEXIM and K-SURE, and loan facilities from BNP Paribas, Citibank, Crédit Agricole, JPMorgan Chase, HSBC, and Bank of America.
