E3 Lithium Ltd., a prominent Canadian lithium development company, announced that it has successfully produced battery-quality lithium carbonate from Leduc brines using demonstration-scale equipment in its Calgary laboratory. The lithium carbonate achieved a purity level of 99.71%, according to internal analysis referenced in their January 15, 2025, announcement.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for E3 Lithium, demonstrating their ability to reliably and consistently produce lithium carbonate that meets battery-grade specifications. The high purity level is expected to be a critical factor in attracting potential partners and securing off-take agreements for future projects. The company plans to conduct further work to test various operating parameters ahead of the full-scale operations at their Lithium Brine Demonstration Facility. Additional details about the demonstration program are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
Chris Doornbos, President and CEO of E3 Lithium, commented on the accomplishment: “Outlining consistent success through each of the development steps is significant as we prepare for the demonstration. Developing battery-quality lithium carbonate at this scale brings us closer to proving Alberta’s potential as a reliable source of lithium production, ready to meet market demand.”
The lithium carbonate was produced using lithium chloride concentrate derived from the company’s Pilot Operations in 2023. The laboratory production process replicated the conditions and equipment intended for use in the full-scale facility. By thoroughly testing and optimizing each stage in a controlled environment, E3 Lithium aims to ensure a seamless transition to large-scale production of battery-grade lithium carbonate.
This successful production provides substantial confidence in the company’s processes and the expertise of its team. It signifies a pivotal step toward scaling up operations to meet the growing demand for high-purity lithium products in the electric vehicle and energy storage markets.
E3 Lithium, listed on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol ETL, holds measured and indicated mineral resources totaling 16.2 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) in Alberta, along with 0.9 million tonnes of inferred LCE resources. In Saskatchewan, the company has an additional 2.5 million tonnes of inferred LCE resources. E3 Lithium’s goal is to produce high-purity, battery-grade lithium products to support the increasing global shift toward electrification and renewable energy.
