A fire broke out today at a production facility of Chinese battery giant CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited) in Ningde city, Fujian province.
A rare fire broke out at CATL’s production base Z around 11:00 am Beijing time and was still not fully under control by 2:40 pm, according to local media outlet Cailian.
Witnesses reported that firefighters arrived shortly after the fire began, and staff were quickly evacuated. The Ningde City Emergency Management Bureau confirmed there were no reported injuries.
Despite the swift response from emergency services, the blaze persisted well into the afternoon. According to reports from local media source 21jingji, witnesses from nearby businesses observed around a dozen fire trucks deployed to control the fire.
A witness working at a nearby grocery store remarked that the smell of smoke became noticeable around 12:30 pm. In contrast, a staff member at a nearby restaurant detailed the fire’s intensity and the overwhelming scent of burning materials.
CATL, recognized as the world’s largest producer of power batteries and a key supplier to major automakers such as Tesla, Nio, and Li Auto, has not yet disclosed information regarding the specific products affected by the fire or the potential impact on its production operations. The extent of the damage and any disruption to the Ningde facility’s output remains uncertain as investigations are ongoing.
