SK On, a global leader in battery technology and innovation, has proudly announced the launch of its groundbreaking educational initiative, the ‘Job Specialty College,’ a significant expansion within the existing SK On Academy (SKONA). This program is strategically designed to enhance its employees’ professional skills and knowledge through a comprehensive suite of advanced training programs, solidifying the company’s commitment to fostering internal talent and maintaining its competitive edge in the industry.
On October 8th (KST), the company hosted a landmark orientation event at the prestigious Gran Seoul Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The gathering brought together 40 of the 124 selected employee-instructors who are set to lead this transformative educational journey. These instructors participated in intensive workshops led by professional educators, focusing on effective teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and pedagogical best practices. This initiative underscores SK On’s innovative approach of empowering its own employees to become educators, thereby leveraging internal expertise to cultivate a robust learning culture.
Established in January of the previous year, SK On Academy has been instrumental in providing employees with a diverse range of learning opportunities. With over 300 courses available both online and offline, the academy covers critical areas such as essential battery technologies, intricate production processes, in-depth product insights, and emerging trends shaping the industry’s future. It also offers comprehensive programs on corporate strategies, leadership development, and organizational dynamics, ensuring that employees are well-versed in technical skills and corporate acumen.
The introduction of the Job Specialty College represents a significant evolution of SKONA’s educational offerings. This new program features advanced courses meticulously organized by specific job domains and proficiency levels—Basic, Advanced, and Expert. The multi-tiered structure is designed to cater to employees at various stages of their professional journey, providing a clear pathway for skill enhancement and career advancement. Courses are accessible online and offline, offering flexibility to accommodate different learning styles and schedules.
The program will initially target four core areas: manufacturing technology, quality, procurement, and digital technology, with future expansions into research and development, finance, and sales. Focused on problem-based learning (PBL), the curriculum aims to equip employees with practical problem-solving abilities.
SK On intends to enhance the curriculum further, creating a university-like framework with competency certification and credit-based courses centered around key subjects. There are also plans to bring in full-time instructors to maintain high teaching standards and expertise.
“Our commitment to investing in people and research remains steadfast as we prepare for the future,” said Lee Seok-hee, CEO of SK On. “Our goal is to develop SK On’s in-house university to transform our team members into industry-leading experts.”
