Amprius Technologies, Inc., a prominent manufacturer of next-generation lithium-ion batteries, has delivered its new high-performance 6.3Ah 21700 SiCore™ cell to a Fortune 500 company operating in the Light Electric Vehicle (LEV) sector for evaluation. This latest cell sets a new industry benchmark for energy density within the widely utilized 21700 cylindrical format.
The 6.3Ah SiCore cell boasts an energy density of 315 Wh/kg, offering more than a 25% increase in capacity compared to standard 5.0Ah 21700 cells. It also maintains a high-power 3C discharge rate and achieves 800 cycles at an 80% depth of discharge (DOD). These features contribute to an extended battery lifespan and reduced replacement costs. Designed for seamless integration, the cell’s drop-in compatibility allows manufacturers to enhance performance without the need for extensive system redesigns.
“Our new 6.3Ah 21700 SiCore cell has attracted strong interest from leading OEM manufacturers because it delivers a significant improvement in battery performance,” said Dr. Ionel Stefan, CTO of Amprius Technologies. “With commercialization of this cell set for this year, we are excited to offer a high-capacity, long-lasting solution that meets the growing demand for more efficient energy storage solutions across multiple industries.”
While the initial application focus for the 6.3Ah SiCore cell is within the LEV market, its high energy density and extended cycle life make it suitable for a range of other applications, including fixed-wing aviation and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies such as robotics.
Amprius has secured manufacturing partnerships to support large-scale production, ensuring gigawatt-hour (GWh) scale capacity to meet the increasing demand for advanced energy storage solutions. As the need for high-performance batteries continues to rise, Amprius remains committed to delivering cutting-edge battery technology to support the future of electrification.
