Julian brings extensive expertise in research, management, and marketing to the battery technology industry. He earned a Ph.D. in Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin and has a strong scientific foundation in Analytical Chemistry, developed through his work as a researcher at the Helmholtz Research Center. After transitioning to industry, he joined Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2019 and moved up to the position of Marketing Manager, where he oversaw B2B marketing throughout EMEA, planned and executed European strategic objectives, and ensured global alignment. Julian is passionate about driving the growth of innovative battery technology companies and suppliers through strategic B2B marketing and business development.
Simon Voss, Founder and CEO of BETTERE®, is an innovation diplomat, consultant, and engineer advancing battery technology and e-mobility. Educated at the PEM institute at RWTH Aachen University, he developed the CELLFAB battery pilot production line and led the Electromobility Laboratory and Office for E-Mobility at RWTH Aachen. Simon founded BETTERE to educate professionals and the public through the E-Mobility Innovation Podcast and Lecture Series, sharing insights from national and international conferences. His competencies include building the BETTERE Network of high-profile experts, B2B knowledge communication, engineering support in battery development, strategic e-mobility advice, and mentoring executives through Management meets Meditation.
Lukas Kothmeier, Founder and CEO of LKMC, is driven by working with committed project teams and motivated managers, believing that such teams can find solutions that others might not initially consider possible. He has a natural aptitude for orchestrating and leading diverse teams, whether as a basketball coach, music ensemble organist, youth group event leader, or project team leader, and has extended this leadership into many professional areas. His communicative, organizational, technical, and commercial skills enable him to advise on projects facing various challenges and to lead diverse project teams effectively. Lukas finds fulfillment in his passions, which include making music, leading basketball games, youth work, and skydiving.
David is a multidisciplinary mechanical engineer and project manager with roots in the automotive industry and a passion for creation. His main focus is on the conception and design of technical products and how to make them visible, understandable and perceptible to the customer throughout the development process. He has gained extensive experience as a research engineer, team leader and strategic management assistant at the Institut für Kraftfahrzeuge RWTH Aachen University and fka GmbH and is now seeking new challenges as an independent engineer and creator.
Johannes Roessner is a leading battery validation and safety expert with more than 15 years of experience ensuring state-of-the-art solutions for the battery industry. As co-founder and managing director of batch2 engineering GmbH, Johannes specializes in improving the safety, efficiency and regulatory compliance of batteries for a diverse clientele – including battery test labs, manufacturers and companies handling battery systems. Johannes’ career includes key roles at TÜV SÜD in Munich, where he managed the full spectrum of battery testing – from performance and environmental assessments to abuse testing – from cell level to system level validation. His international experience includes seven years in Japan and China, where he oversaw the design, construction, and operation of state-of-the-art battery testing laboratories. Extending the company’s expertise, batch2 engineering also provides comprehensive hydrogen component and system validation services to serve the growing hydrogen economy.
Maximilian Wagner is a skilled electrochemist specializing in cell characterization and impedance spectroscopy. With a solid academic foundation, he bridges the gap between academia and industry at the TraWeBa Battery Network as Cluster Manager, fostering connections across the entire battery value chain and facilitating effective information transfer and collaboration among diverse companies. Maximilian provides comprehensive market overviews, cultivates strategic partnerships, and organizes workshops and webinars to drive innovation in the battery industry. His extensive experience as a Project Manager and Group Leader at the Leibniz Institute for Surface Engineering (IOM) in Leipzig has advanced the electrochemical analysis of batteries and fuel cells. Additionally, he serves as a Lecturer for Electrochemistry at the University of Leipzig, sharing his expertise with the next generation of scientists.
Christopher Hecht specializes in applying machine learning, big data, and various analytics tools to both private and public electric vehicle charging processes, whether managed through charging stations or directly by vehicles. His objective is to optimize asset usage by understanding user charging behaviors and preferences, enabling the customization of charging systems to better meet their needs. At The Mobility House, Christopher focuses on maximizing the flexibility that vehicles can provide to the electricity system by implementing improved user incentives, enhancing the technical utilization of vehicle capabilities, and facilitating better interaction with electricity markets. In collaboration with RWTH Aachen University, he works on public charging infrastructure, optimizing both the placement of new charging stations and the utilization of existing ones. Additionally, Christopher is an expert in battery aging, cell chemistries, and stationary storage systems, and he possesses expertise in software development and agile working methodologies, drawing from his experience with The Mobility House and RWTH Aachen University.
Jan Figgener holds a degree in Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Electrical Energy Technology from Aachen and Istanbul. From 2017 to 2023, he worked at the Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives (ISEA) at RWTH Aachen University under Professor Dirk Uwe Sauer, where he led the Department of Grid Integration of Batteries and Storage System Analysis, focusing on stationary battery storage, electric vehicles, sector coupling, and battery aging. Jan provided consultancy to national and international companies and ministries on battery storage solutions. An experienced speaker, he has conducted numerous workshops and presentations, including at the Smarter E 2023 press conference, and has been featured in publications such as Spiegel Online and Süddeutsche Zeitung. Currently, Jan serves as a battery expert in the industry, responsible for planning multi-megawatt-class battery storage systems, modeling batteries, and developing diagnostic algorithms. Additionally, he co-manages the market website www.battery-charts.de with RWTH Aachen and organizes an electromobility conference with Christopher Hecht.
