BYD Co. Ltd. is set to introduce its electric compact SUV, the Atto 2, to the French market. Known as the Yun Up in China, the vehicle was unveiled on Tuesday at the La Défense Arena in Paris.
The Atto 2 will be available in France starting at 28,990 euros (approximately $30,440). This pricing positions the Atto 2 competitively within the B-segment SUV category in Europe. Compared to its rivals, the Atto 2 is priced 5,000 euros lower than the Kia Niro, 6,000 euros below the Opel Mokka-e, and 7,000 euros less than the Peugeot e-2008. It is important to note that the Opel Mokka-e and Peugeot e-2008 are eligible for French subsidies of up to 4,000 euros, which may influence buyers’ decisions.
In the Chinese market, BYD launched the Yuan Up on March 26, 2024, offering four different variants with prices starting at RMB 96,800 (approximately $13,330). The Atto 2 measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. These dimensions make it a versatile option for urban and suburban drivers seeking an electric SUV.
On January 15, BYD presented nine models, including the Yuan Up, at the Brussels Auto Show, marking the compact SUV’s debut in the European market. The company officially announced the European launch of the Yuan Up, rebranded as the Atto 2, on February 6.
The introduction of the Atto 2 to Europe underscores BYD’s strategic efforts to expand its footprint in the electric vehicle sector. BYD aims to cater to the growing demand for affordable and efficient electric vehicles in Europe by entering the competitive B-segment SUV market. This move reflects the company’s commitment to promoting sustainable transportation solutions and advancing its global presence in electric mobility.
