CarbonScape has entered into multiple agreements to secure the supply of renewable feedstock, specifically woodchips, for its planned industrial biographite production facilities in North America and Europe. The agreements, established with several of the world’s largest forestry companies, support CarbonScape’s expansion following its pilot operations in New Zealand and the announcement of a demonstration plant in Kotka, Finland.

These agreements ensure a stable, long-term supply of sustainably sourced woodchips, which serve as the primary feedstock in CarbonScape’s biographite production process. The contracts are designed to meet the full industrial production capacity for at least the next ten years. Biographite, produced from woodchip side streams of the renewable forestry and timber industry, offers an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional graphite. It is a cost-effective, locally produced material that performs well as an anode in lithium-ion batteries, catering to the rising demand in the battery market.

CarbonScape plans to begin construction of its first industrial-scale plant in 2027, with production expected to commence in early 2029. The company aims to leverage the secured renewable feedstock from its upstream partners to support commercial supply to customers. Vincent Ledoux Pedailles, Chief Commercial Officer of CarbonScape, stated that securing these supply agreements is a pivotal step toward building industrial plants and advancing the commercialization of biographite, thereby contributing to the global battery industry’s evolution.

With the global demand for graphite in electric vehicle (EV) batteries anticipated to increase significantly and China currently accounting for over 95% of graphite production, CarbonScape’s biographite presents an innovative solution. It helps diversify and localize critical mineral supply chains, reducing reliance on dominant producers and enhancing supply security.

CarbonScape’s projects are progressing on multiple fronts, including ongoing production and testing at the New Zealand pilot plant, finalizing engineering studies for the Finland demonstration plant, and validating product specifications with leading battery manufacturers and OEMs across Asia, Europe, and North America. The company is also advancing its capital raise efforts, supported by Morgan Stanley, and applying for public funding in both Europe and the United States.

CarbonScape is a deep-tech bioeconomy company based in New Zealand, focused on converting forestry by-products into high-quality, battery-grade biographite through a proprietary, sustainable process. The company is preparing to construct several industrial plants in Europe and North America to support the transition to clean energy and electric mobility.
