China’s electric vehicle (EV) battery installations reached a record 54.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in September, marking a 49.6% increase year-on-year and a 15.5% rise from August, according to data from the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA). This surge underscores the rapid growth of the EV industry in the country.

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL) maintained its leading position by installing 23.9 GWh of power batteries, securing a 44.02% market share. However, this represents a slight decrease of 0.44 percentage points from its 44.46% share in August.

BYD followed as the second-largest player with 13.18 GWh installed and a 24.2% market share, down 0.77 percentage points from 24.97% in the previous month. Despite the slight decline, both companies continue to dominate the market.

CALB ranked third with an installed capacity of 3.65 GWh, capturing a 6.69% share—a drop of 0.65 percentage points from August’s 7.34%. Gotion High-tech showed significant growth, ranking fourth with 3.16 GWh installed and increasing its market share to 5.8%, up 1.21 percentage points from 4.58% in August.
