LG Energy Solution announced that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Doosan Bobcat to develop battery pack solutions tailored for compact construction equipment. This partnership aims to expedite the electrification of the construction sector.
Under the MoU, the two companies will work together to create standardized battery pack solutions applicable to a range of construction machinery, including skid-steer loaders and excavators. The collaboration will focus on expanding their presence in key markets such as North America. Additionally, LG Energy Solution and Doosan Bobcat intend to explore opportunities to extend their partnership to other applications, including electrifying grounds maintenance equipment like tractors.
A significant aspect of the collaboration involves integrating LG Energy Solution’s cylindrical batteries into Doosan Bobcat’s leading construction equipment models. LG Energy Solution’s cylindrical batteries are noted for their high voltage, energy density, and longevity, making them well-suited for the demanding conditions often encountered in construction environments. These batteries are designed to maintain exceptional performance and durability amidst extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
Doosan Bobcat, a prominent player in the global construction equipment market, has been actively advancing the electrification of its product lineup. Following the establishment of its dedicated electrification organization in January, Doosan Bobcat plans to set up a research and development center in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, in the latter half of the year. This center will focus on electrification research and the validation of battery pack production technologies.
Yooseong Oh, Senior Vice President and Head of LG Energy Solution’s Mobility & IT Battery Division, commented on the partnership: “We are excited to collaborate with Doosan Bobcat, a global leader in construction equipment, to develop electrification technologies and expand our business in this vitally important sector. We remain deeply committed to leading the challenge of electrifying various industries.”
Hyunchul (Charlie) Park, CSO and Executive Vice President of Doosan Bobcat, stated, “We are pleased to develop battery packs for compact construction equipment on the back of excellent quality and stability of LG Energy Solution’s cells,” explaining the significance of the MOU. “We will standardize battery packs for compact construction equipment and provide solutions to major markets such as North America,” Park added.
In line with its strategic vision announced last October, LG Energy Solution is expanding into non-electric vehicle (EV) sectors to achieve a balanced portfolio. The company is focused on establishing a sustainable battery ecosystem in emerging mobility industries, including Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and marine vessels.
