LG Energy Solution has introduced ‘B.around’, a new brand dedicated to providing comprehensive battery management total solutions (BMTS). This initiative aims to expand the company’s services beyond battery manufacturing, enhancing customer value and promoting safer battery usage.
Battery management systems (BMS) are essential for monitoring battery conditions to ensure optimal performance and safety. The ‘B.around’ brand differentiates itself by offering advanced solutions, including safety diagnostics software, battery degradation diagnostics software, and services optimized for software-defined vehicle (SDV) platforms.
The brand’s slogan, “Be Around Your Side,” reflects LG Energy Solution’s commitment to staying close to customers by continuously monitoring various battery conditions. This approach provides a safer and more convenient user experience compared to conventional BMS, which typically focus on measuring voltage, current, and temperature.
The ‘B.around’ product lineup encompasses both software and hardware solutions. The software is divided into two main categories: safety diagnostics software that proactively detects and alerts users to potential issues like thermal events, and battery degradation diagnostics software that assesses and predicts a battery’s future capacity for prolonged and healthier use. Enhanced BMS hardware is also available, building upon these software capabilities.
For SDV platforms, ‘B.around’ utilizes System-on-Chip (SoC), cloud, and AI computing technologies. The SoC-based technology is being developed in collaboration with industry leaders, including Qualcomm Technologies.
LG Energy Solution’s BMTS technologies are backed by empirical data from the analysis of over 130,000 battery cells and 1,000 battery modules. Their BMS software has been implemented in more than 100,000 electric vehicles, achieving a safety detection accuracy rate exceeding 90% and a battery degradation diagnosis error rate within 1%, positioning it among the industry’s top performers. The company holds over 8,000 patents related to BMS.
The company is also actively promoting its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) business, utilizing BMTS technologies and battery lifecycle data, with intentions to extend the ‘B.around’ brand into this sector.
