Morrow Batteries and Proventia have signed a letter of intent to collaborate on the development of battery packs using Morrow’s Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells for heavy-duty equipment applications. The partnership aims to address the growing demand for European-sourced battery technology in the non-road mobile machinery market.

Morrow, based in Arendal, Norway, recently opened its first factory with an annual production capacity of 1 GWh of LFP BEV2 batteries. The company expects to start commercial production by the end of the year. Proventia, a Finnish technology company, specializes in clean technologies for global engine and machine manufacturers.

The collaboration will focus on the development of high-performance LFP battery systems suitable for the electrification of heavy-duty machinery. Pilot systems are expected to be delivered to customers in 2025, with volume production starting in 2026.

Jari Lotvonen, CEO of Proventia, expressed confidence in the partnership, citing Morrow’s technical expertise and track record in battery cell development and production. He also noted that future plans include advanced cell technologies beyond LFP, such as LNMO-X chemistry.

Lars Christian Bacher, CEO of Morrow, highlighted the growing interest of European companies in LFP batteries, particularly for applications in heavy-duty equipment and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The collaboration with Proventia opens up a new business area for Morrow.

Both companies see this partnership as an opportunity to contribute to the greening of heavy-duty equipment. Proventia currently offers batteries based on LTO technology and plans to expand its portfolio with LFP and LNMO-X technologies, all of which are well suited for the harsh conditions of heavy equipment.

This collaboration is an important step in the development and production of European battery technology for the non-road mobile machinery market, supporting the ongoing transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions in heavy-duty applications.
