NEO Battery Materials Ltd. (“NEO” or the “Company”), a developer of low-cost silicon anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, announced the appointment of Dr. Jun Sik Jeoung as Senior Scientific Advisor of Commercialization & Cell Development on May 15, 2025.

Dr. Jeoung holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Arizona and brings over 17 years of experience in lithium-ion battery research and development, scale-up, and production technologies. His career includes significant roles at global automotive and battery cell manufacturers, where he led projects focused on the design, optimization, and commercial deployment of various cell formats, including 21700 cylindrical cells, prismatic cells, and pouch cells for electric vehicle applications.

During his tenure at Samsung SDI, Dr. Jeoung played a key role in developing the 94Ah automotive cells for the BMW i3 electric vehicle, demonstrating his capacity to manage technically complex, large-scale commercial projects. Prior to joining NEO, he served as Vice President of R&D at EoCell, a Silicon Valley-based silicon battery technology company. There, he enhanced cell energy density and safety, collaborated with Morrow Batteries to develop commercial LFP-based EV cells, and led global teams to deliver high-performance battery solutions.

With the increasing demand for NEO’s P-300N silicon anodes and the company’s plans to expand capacity for mass production testing, Dr. Jeoung’s expertise is crucial as NEO advances towards Phase I expansion targeting a production capacity of 240 tons. In his role, he will oversee the design and manufacturing of large-scale batteries for material qualification and provide commercialization strategies for silicon anode manufacturing.

Dr. Jeoung commented, “Among the most practical and economical alternatives for realizing high energy density and rapid-charging capabilities of Li-ion batteries, silicon anode integration is a must in the cell design. These silicon materials should be inexpensive while sufficiently enhancing battery performance. By demonstrating high-performance Li-ion cells utilizing NEO’s silicon materials, NEO’s low-cost silicon anodes will secure the excellence of battery performance and a unique position in the market. I look forward to contributing to NEO’s successful mass production and commercial integration in the silicon anode materials market.”

Mr. Spencer Huh, President & CEO of NEO, stated, “Dr. Jeoung is a pioneer of Li-ion battery technologies focusing on high capacity, safety, quality, and energy efficiency. We are highly excited to invite Dr. Jeoung to the team during this crucial juncture of scale-up. Moreover, to ensure NEO’s continued growth and to create new strategic business, he will contribute to the technological development of high-energy density and fast-charging Li-ion batteries with NEO’s silicon anodes by utilizing his background in advanced Li-ion cell design, materials research, process optimization, and team leadership.”

Dr. Jeoung also has experience in Plasma Display Panel (PDP) production technologies, where he led innovations that reduced defect rates and improved manufacturing yields at Samsung. His ability to address complex technical challenges and lead cross-functional teams has been a consistent strength throughout his career.

NEO Battery Materials is committed to developing silicon anode materials for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles, electronics, and energy storage systems. Utilizing a patented, low-cost manufacturing process, NEO Battery aims to produce silicon anodes that enable longer-running and ultra-fast charging capabilities, positioning the company as a leader in the global battery materials market.
