Nio Inc. reported a significant milestone in its battery swap services for February, achieving an average of approximately 97,800 swaps per day. According to the latest Nio Power monthly operations report released today, the company facilitated a total of 2,738,400 battery swaps from February 1 to 28. This achievement marks February as the highest month in Nio’s history for average daily battery swap services.
The notable increase in battery swaps is primarily attributed to the Chinese New Year holiday period, which extended from January 28 to February 4 this year. During this peak travel season, Nio experienced heightened driving activity. A report published by the company on February 7 highlighted that within the 15-day span from January 22 to February 5, there were 12 days where daily battery swap services exceeded 100,000. The highest single-day record was set on February 3, with 136,720 battery swaps.
In response to the increased demand, Nio expanded its infrastructure by adding 35 new battery swap stations in China during February, bringing the total number of stations to 3,141 by month’s end. Currently, Nio operates 3,145 battery swap stations across China, with 970 located along major highways. On average, each Nio user utilized the battery swap service six times in February, resulting in an estimated time savings of 5 hours and 42 minutes per month compared to traditional charging methods.
Additionally, Nio welcomed 27,925 new users to its battery swap service in February. The company also enhanced its charging infrastructure by installing 101 new charging piles and establishing charging posts in 22 county-level administrative regions. Throughout the month, Nio provided 1,866,312 charging services, with over 80% of these transactions supporting non-Nio-branded electric vehicle models. The charging network currently accommodates customers from more than 200 different brands.
Nio continued to offer battery upgrades in February, facilitating 9,873 upgrades and bringing the cumulative total to 377,489. Users of Nio’s standard 75-kWh range models have the option to temporarily upgrade to higher-capacity 100-kWh and 150-kWh battery packs. Furthermore, starting this month, Nio’s sub-brand Onvo has begun allowing owners to upgrade from the standard 60-kWh to the 85-kWh long-range models on a flexible basis, including daily, monthly, or annual options.
Industry analysts anticipate that Nio’s battery swap business will achieve break-even status by the end of 2026.
