Northvolt has entered into a Sale and Purchase Agreement with a leading industrial group for the acquisition of its Systems Industrial division. This division specializes in the development and manufacturing of battery systems designed for heavy industry and off-highway applications.
Founded in 2018, Northvolt Systems Industrial employs around 300 individuals at its prototyping facility in Stockholm, Sweden, and its production site in Gdańsk, Poland. The division provides a variety of battery modules and systems catering to sectors such as material handling, construction equipment, mining, agriculture, and municipal services. It has successfully delivered battery systems from its Gdańsk facility to notable clients, including Epiroc, Konecranes, and Dynell.
Under the terms of the agreement, all essential assets, employees, and existing contracts will be transferred to ensure the seamless continuation of the Industrial division’s operations. Post-acquisition, Northvolt Systems Industrial will maintain its operations, and all orders slated for 2025 will be honored as planned.
This acquisition is part of Northvolt’s broader strategic initiative to concentrate on large-scale cell manufacturing. Matthias Arleth, Northvolt’s Chief Operating Officer, stated that the decision to divest the Systems Industrial division was challenging but necessary for the company’s strategic focus.
Elin Åkerström, Vice President of Northvolt Systems Industrial, expressed satisfaction with the agreement, highlighting the division’s achievements, including the sale of over 3,300 Voltpack Core products and approximately 10 million hours of runtime for individual battery packs. She emphasized the positive outlook for the division’s future growth and development under the new ownership.
Both parties have indicated that the completion of the transaction is subject to obtaining the required regulatory approvals and the finalization of binding agreements. This move highlights Northvolt’s commitment to refining its operational focus while ensuring the continuity and advancement of its Systems Industrial division under new leadership.
