Company Overview

Founded in 2022 as an affiliate of Canadian firm HPQ Silicon, Novacium SAS is a materials science startup based in Solaize, France, focused on advancing energy storage and sustainable resource management. Led by materials engineers Jed Kraiem, Julien Dégoulange, and Oleksiy Nichiporuk at the Site AXELONE innovation hub, the company aims to enhance lithium-ion battery performance and enable scalable green hydrogen production.

Battery Technology

Novacium develops silicon-based anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, blending 10% silicon-oxide (SiOx) with graphite to boost energy density and maintain compatibility with existing manufacturing. Its Gen3 18650 cells deliver over 4,000 mAh capacity, 80% retention after 1,000 cycles, and 99.88% coulombic efficiency. Gen4 targets over 4,300 mAh. Additionally, Novacium has a patented process converting aluminum waste (black dross) into hydrogen feedstock.

Products

Gen3 18650-size silicon-anode cells: >4,000 mAh, 80% capacity retention after 1,000 cycles, 18% higher capacity and 31% more energy output vs. traditional cells, 99.88% coulombic efficiency. Gen4 cells aim for >4,300 mAh. Anode blend: 10% SiOx with graphite. Applications include EVs, consumer electronics, unmanned drones, and tactical military communications.

Recent Projects

In 2025, the company has officially begun industrial-scale output of cylindrical lithium-ion cells (18650 and 21700 formats) incorporating its GEN3 silicon-based anode material, a significant step up from previous lab and pilot phases. According to HPQ Silicon (Novacium’s partner and exclusive North American licensee), annual production capacity for HPQ ENDURA+ and/or NOVACIUM-branded 18650 lithium-ion cells is projected at up to 1.5 million cells.

Investors

In 2025, HPQ Silicon increased its stake from 20.0% to 28.4%, and the founders hold an equity position in HPQ. In 2023, the French Bank of Public Investments (BPI) awarded a €90,000 grant.
