SAIC Motor and Huawei Partner to Develop Smart Electric Vehicles

Chinese state-owned automaker SAIC Motor has entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with technology firm Huawei Device Company to develop a new generation of intelligent new energy vehicles (NEVs). Announced on February 24, 2025, the partnership aims to enhance smart mobility features for SAIC Motor’s customer base.

Under the agreement, SAIC Motor and Huawei will collaborate across various aspects of the NEV value chain, including product definition, manufacturing, supply chain management, and sales and services. The collaboration is focused on creating intelligent NEVs that offer a leading smart mobility experience to users.

SAIC Motor will contribute its in-house technologies encompassing battery electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). Additionally, the automaker will provide expertise in key components such as EV batteries, electric and hybrid drive systems, and fuel cell solutions. This comprehensive technological input is expected to form the backbone of the jointly developed NEVs.

Huawei, expanding its footprint in the smart electric vehicle sector, brings its expertise in software, hardware, chip development, and cloud solutions to the partnership. The company has previously established similar collaborations with other Chinese automakers, including Changan Automobile, GAC Group, Dongfeng Motor, JAC Motor, BYD, and Seres. Huawei’s role in the partnership with SAIC Motor will focus on developing advanced automotive technologies. These include intelligent driving solutions like advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), intelligent cockpits, vehicle control systems, and the development of software-defined vehicles.
