SK IE Technology and Gotion have entered into a partnership to enhance the supply of battery separators for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems (ESS) in North America and Europe. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on February 26, 2025, during the Intersolar North America Conference held in San Diego, California.
Under the agreement, SK IE Technology (SKIET), a prominent provider of EV battery materials, will collaborate with Gotion, a leading global battery manufacturer, to ensure a steady supply of separators for Gotion’s manufacturing operations in key markets. The signing ceremony included SKIET CEO Lee Sang-min, Head of SKIET Business Division Kim Jong-hyun, and senior executives from Gotion, including the President of Gotion Inc. and the Head of Gotion International Supply Chain Center.
SKIET has already initiated the verification process to supply separators for Gotion’s EV and ESS batteries at their production facilities. Upon completion, SKIET will supply separators to Gotion’s new manufacturing plants located in Illinois, USA, and Slovakia, Europe. Gotion is rapidly expanding its global footprint, currently operating multiple factories worldwide and developing additional plants in Illinois and Slovakia.
In addition to the collaboration with Gotion, SKIET is actively diversifying its customer base. Earlier in February 2025, SKIET secured a long-term supply contract worth KRW 291.4 billion with a global battery manufacturer for prismatic lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery separators. The company also disclosed during a recent earnings call that it is in negotiations for further mid- to long-term contracts with other international customers.
Lee Sang-min, CEO of SKIET, stated, “This partnership with Gotion represents a significant step forward for both companies as we look to create synergies in the global EV and ESS market,” said Lee Sang-min, CEO of SKIET. “By leveraging our advanced products—designed to meet the needs of all battery form factors—and our robust global supply chain, SKIET will continue to elevate its corporate value and reinforce its position as a key player in the global market.”
President of Gotion Inc. also stated, “In the face of an increasingly uncertain and challenging market environment, we aim to navigate these difficulties in partnership with SKIET. We will continue to strive for the establishment of a long-term and strategic global cooperation relationship between our two companies.”
