Under the agreement, Sunwoda Electric Vehicle Battery (SEVB), a subsidiary of Sunwoda, and XTC will collaborate on innovations such as composite cathode ion and electron conduction network construction, development of high-stability electrolyte films, and creation of dendrite-free, high-coulomb-efficiency lithium-metal anodes. The companies also plan to explore commercial cooperation when the timing is appropriate.

Sunwoda, already experienced in producing lithium-ion and solid-state batteries, anticipates that integrating XTC’s new materials will enhance the energy density and safety of its batteries. The company has developed first-generation semi-solid batteries with an energy density of 300 Wh/kg and is currently testing a second generation with a density of 400 Wh/kg.

Additionally, Sunwoda has conducted small-scale tests of a first-generation solid-state battery with an energy density of 400 Wh/kg and is developing a second-generation solid-state battery with even higher energy density. The company is also working on developing production lines to enable mass production of solid-state batteries by 2026.

XTC New Energy Materials, founded in 2016 and based in Xiamen, China, specializes in the research, development, production, and sale of cathode materials. While primarily operating within China, XTC announced plans in 2023 to establish a plant in France in cooperation with Orano.

Solid-state batteries have garnered significant attention in recent years for their potential to revolutionize energy storage. In a related development, Factorial Energy in the United States recently scaled up its Solstice solid-state battery cells, developed with Mercedes-Benz, to a capacity of 40 Ah.
