UL Solutions Inc, a global applied safety science company, has opened its North America Advanced Battery Laboratory in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Located near Detroit, the facility is one of the most comprehensive electric and hybrid vehicle battery testing laboratories in the United States.
The laboratory represents UL Solutions’ largest investment in a single facility to date and reflects the company’s commitment to improving the safety and reliability of battery technology. It expands UL Solutions’ international network of facilities focused on emerging battery technologies, in line with global electrification and clean energy trends.
Jennifer Scanlon, president and CEO of UL Solutions, highlighted the lab’s role in facilitating the safe commercialization of battery innovations essential to the global energy transition. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer recognized the importance of the facility in strengthening the state’s position in mobility and electrification.
The Auburn Hills facility is equipped with advanced battery testing technology that enables UL Solutions to conduct comprehensive safety and performance evaluations for automotive and industrial OEMs and their suppliers. The laboratory, staffed by UL Solutions specialists, offers a wide range of tests including thermal fire propagation, electrical, mechanical abuse and environmental assessments based on various international standards and specifications.
The North America Advanced Battery Laboratory is part of a global network of testing facilities focused on battery technology. These include:

The new laboratory adds to UL Solutions’ global network of battery testing facilities with locations in North America, Europe and Asia. The expansion aligns with UL Solutions’ strategic focus on meeting the growing demand for safety and performance testing in the rapidly evolving field of energy storage and electrification across multiple industries.
