Volvo Trucks has announced a delay in the construction of its planned battery plant in Mariestad, Sweden. The company, known for its innovation in electric truck technology, is reassessing the optimal timeline for developing the facility.
According to a Volvo spokesperson, the construction start date has been pushed back by 12 to 24 months from the original 2025 plan. This adjustment will allow Volvo to align the plant’s production capacity with market demand for battery-electric applications and avoid premature expansion.
While the construction schedule has shifted, it remains uncertain whether this delay will affect the eventual production start date. Volvo is currently managing the project independently, but is in discussions with potential partners to optimize the development and operation of the plant.
The company underlines its commitment to time the production ramp-up with the market demand for electric vehicle batteries. This strategic approach aims to ensure efficient allocation of resources and avoid overcapacity in the rapidly developing electric vehicle sector.
