French battery foils manufacturer Armor Battery Films has commenced production of its En’ Safe coated current collectors at its newly established facility in La Chevrolière, France. This expansion marks a significant increase in the company’s production capacity, scaling operations by five times to accommodate the anticipated growth of the global battery market.
The new plant spans an area of 8,000 square meters and is designed for continuous 24/7 operation. It is equipped with an ink formulation workshop, three coating and cutting workshops, and a spacious storage warehouse. Additionally, the first floor houses three laboratories and a dry room dedicated to the development of formulations, as well as the assembly and testing of coin and pouch cell batteries. This comprehensive setup aims to streamline the production process and enhance product development capabilities.
Pierre Guichard, the Research, Development, and Industrial Manager at Armor Battery Films, highlighted the strategic significance of the new facility. He stated, “The machines installed at the new site will not only enable us to increase our production capacity, but also to offer new product specifications—wider widths and continuous and intermittent patterns—that meet the expectations of our battery manufacturer customers.” This expansion allows the company to cater to a broader range of specifications, providing tailored solutions to meet diverse customer needs in the battery manufacturing sector.
The En’ Safe current collectors produced at the new plant are engineered to deliver several performance enhancements. These include improved electrode adhesion and protection against corrosion, which are critical for maintaining battery integrity and longevity. Furthermore, the current collectors contribute to higher energy density and better battery capacity retention, ultimately increasing battery safety and extending the overall lifespan by up to 20%, according to Armor Battery Films.
This development positions Armor Battery Films to better support the expanding demand in the electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage markets. As the global push towards electrification intensifies, the ability to produce high-quality current collectors at a larger scale is essential for meeting the industry’s evolving requirements.
The establishment of the La Chevrolière plant underscores Armor Battery Films’ commitment to advancing battery technology and supporting the growth of the e-mobility sector. By enhancing production capabilities and introducing advanced product features, the company aims to maintain its competitive edge and contribute to the sustainable development of the global battery market.
