Eni and SERI Industrial have signed an agreement aimed at exploring the industrial development of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) electrochemical batteries for energy storage systems (ESS) and electric mobility in both commercial and industrial applications.
SERI Industrial, a prominent player in energy storage, will partner with Eni in various areas, including research, development, procurement, and commercialization, with operations centered around SERI Industrial’s Caserta plant.
This partnership could lead to the formation of a joint venture focused on establishing a production site at Eni’s Brindisi facility. Plans under consideration include setting up a stationary energy storage production line, a production line for active materials, and a battery recycling line, complementing a similar facility being developed by FIB, a SERI Industrial subsidiary, in the Caserta province.
This initiative represents a potential milestone for industrial growth in southern Italy, supporting the shift towards a sustainable energy framework. It combines SERI Industrial’s specialized battery expertise with Eni’s ability to advance technological solutions that contribute to decarbonization efforts. In fact, Stationary batteries are critical for the electricity grid, enhancing renewable energy integration by mitigating challenges related to renewable intermittency and supporting consistent power supply.
If all conditions are successfully tested and negotiated, the arrangement could progress into binding agreements, further solidifying SERI Industrial’s role within the battery value chain. This partnership would also allow Eni to advance a new industrial transformation initiative aimed at supporting the energy transition.
