EVelution Energy is a trailblazing company dedicated to advancing sustainability in the electric vehicle (EV) battery supply chain. Based in the United States, the company is developing the first solar-powered, carbon-neutral battery-grade cobalt processing facility in Yuma County, Arizona. Strategically located near major transportation hubs, the facility is designed to bolster domestic production of critical materials needed for EV batteries, reducing reliance on foreign sources.

With a mission to support the transition to a net-zero carbon future, EVelution Energy focuses on providing carbon-neutral battery-grade cobalt sulfate to the rapidly growing North American EV market. The facility will incorporate renewable energy and advanced water recycling systems, ensuring minimal environmental impact. By addressing the significant gap in domestic cobalt production, EVelution Energy is poised to play a vital role in the EV industry’s expansion, while promoting economic growth and sustainable practices.

Battery Technology

EVelution Energy specializes in processing battery-grade cobalt, a critical material for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles. The company’s facility will transform cobalt hydroxide and other intermediates into high-purity cobalt sulfate, essential for EV battery production. What sets EVelution Energy apart is its commitment to sustainability. The facility will be fully powered by a 28.4 MW solar array, making it the first carbon-neutral cobalt processing plant in the U.S. Excess solar energy will be stored or sold back to the grid, enhancing efficiency.

Water management is another cornerstone of the company’s operations. Approximately 70% of the water used at the facility will be recycled, reducing strain on local resources. EVelution Energy also emphasizes ethical sourcing of cobalt, ensuring compliance with responsible supply chain standards. With an annual capacity of 7,000 tonnes of cobalt, the facility is expected to meet about 40% of the U.S. demand for EV cobalt by 2027, supporting domestic EV production and resilience in the supply chain.

Recent Projects

In 2024, EVelution Energy announced plans to begin construction of its cobalt processing facility in Yuma County, Arizona, with operations expected to start in late 2025 or early 2026. The company received a non-binding Letter of Interest from the U.S. Export-Import Bank for a loan of up to $200 million to support the project. Additionally, EVelution Energy signed preliminary agreements with suppliers such as Eurasian Resources Group and Glencore, securing a steady flow of cobalt hydroxide for its facility.

The project has been recognized by the Arizona Commerce Authority for its potential economic and environmental benefits. The facility is expected to create over 360 jobs and contribute significantly to the local economy, making it a vital initiative for the region.

Investors

EVelution Energy has garnered support from significant partners in the industry. The company is collaborating with Glencore, a global leader in natural resources, for long-term supply agreements and potential financial solutions. The facility’s location in a Qualified Opportunity Zone also offers tax incentives, attracting investment to the economically disadvantaged area.

The U.S. Export-Import Bank has shown strong interest in funding the project, signaling confidence in EVelution Energy’s vision. With a seasoned management team and strategic partnerships, the company is well-positioned to secure additional investment as it moves toward operational readiness.
