Graphite One Inc., a company focused on establishing a complete U.S. supply chain for advanced graphite materials, has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Graphite One Products Inc., has signed a technology license agreement and a consulting agreement with Hunan Chenyu Fuji New Energy Technology Co. Ltd. (“Chenyu”). Chenyu is an Anode Active Material (AAM) manufacturer based in Changsha City, China, currently supplying qualified AAM to lithium-ion battery producers.
These agreements represent a significant milestone for Graphite One in bringing leading AAM manufacturing technology to the U.S. battery materials supply chain. The company plans to utilize this technology at its proposed AAM facility in Ohio, aiming to address the lack of domestic commercialization of synthetic anode battery materials in the United States.
“The execution of these agreements is a critical step in creating a domestic supply for lithium-ion battery materials,” said Anthony Huston, CEO of Graphite One. “Access to proven products will give us a competitive edge by enabling rapid entry into a market where technology is developing quickly.”
The agreements provide Graphite One with access to essential AAM technology from an experienced supplier to major battery manufacturers. As battery makers demand fast-charging, high-density, and long-life battery specifications, Graphite One aims to keep pace with these advancements.
These arrangements are strictly fee-for-service and do not grant Chenyu any equity, management representation, or control over Graphite One or its affiliates. Technical license agreements are commonly used in the industry, as seen with companies like General Motors (NYSE: GM) and Ford (NYSE: F) in their electric vehicle battery development.
