LG Energy Solution has introduced its Open Submission for Startup (OSS) program, an initiative aimed at fostering collaboration with high-potential startups in the energy sector. The program is now accepting applications from startups worldwide that demonstrate strong expertise and innovative technologies relevant to the energy industry. In the latter half of 2025, the program’s eligibility criteria will be broadened to include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and large corporations.

The OSS program is structured to facilitate ongoing technical collaboration across various fields. Proposals submitted through the program will be matched with appropriate research departments within LG Energy Solution and undergo a thorough review process. Successful candidates, based on their technical evaluations and proof-of-concept results, may be offered opportunities for collaboration. These opportunities include joint research and development projects, equity investments, and other forms of partnership, thereby providing startups with valuable resources and support for their growth and innovation.

There are two distinct submission categories for the OSS program: Need-Based OSS and Open-Topic OSS. The Need-Based OSS focuses on projects that align with LG Energy Solution’s internal requirements in six key areas: Materials, Cell, Cell Process, Pack, Battery Management Systems (BMS), and System. Applications for Need-Based OSS are due by June 30. On the other hand, Open-Topic OSS invites innovative ideas on any topic within the energy sector, with submissions accepted until December 31.

Prospective applicants can submit their proposals through BRIDGE, LG Energy Solution’s online open innovation project management platform. BRIDGE is designed to support collaborations between academia and industry, allowing participants to effectively manage their project goals and deliverables.

Je-Young Kim, Chief Technology Officer of LG Energy Solution, emphasized the importance of open innovation for the company’s business strategy. “Open Innovation is crucial to our business strategy and to realizing groundbreaking ideas and technologies that deliver real impact,” Kim stated. “We are more committed than ever to advancing innovation in the industry through collaborations with various influential partners.”

In addition to the OSS program, LG Energy Solution operates several other open innovation initiatives aimed at connecting with experts across different fields, discovering novel ideas, and supporting the commercialization of innovative technologies. Notable programs include the biennial Battery Challenge, an international startup competition, and the Battery Innovation Contest (BIC), which funds advanced research at universities and laboratories.

Through these comprehensive initiatives, LG Energy Solution not only supports the growth of its partners but also aims to lead the development of next-generation battery technologies, reinforcing its position as a leader in the global battery market.
