Agratas, the global battery business of the Tata Group, is making rapid progress on its new manufacturing campus in Sanand, Gujarat. Covering 320 acres, the facility’s first phase is designed to deliver 20 GWh of annual battery cell production once fully operational.
Construction teams have nearly completed the structural steel framework, marking a key milestone in the project timeline. More than 2,000 construction workers and over 700 personnel from vendor organizations are engaged on-site, driving daily advances across foundations, structural assemblies, and auxiliary buildings.
“The progress at Sanand reflects the dedication and pace of our teams as we bring our vision to life. Each phase of construction takes us closer to our goal of building one of the most advanced manufacturing facilities in the country,” said Anand Sodha, vice president – Supply Chain, Agratas.
Agratas is collaborating with two Tata Group affiliates on the build: Tata Projects Ltd. and Tata Consulting Engineers. Rahul Sharma, Strategic Business Unit Head – Urban Built Form at Tata Projects, emphasized the integration of sustainable practices into large-scale manufacturing delivery. “Our track record in executing complex industrial projects ensures that this facility will be constructed efficiently, with sustainability embedded at every stage,” Sharma said.
In parallel with physical construction, Agratas is developing a resilient, technology-driven supply chain. The company plans to implement an integrated sales and operations planning system that synchronizes demand forecasts, inventory management, and material flows across imports, exports, and domestic logistics. Automated handling and real-time visibility tools are expected to optimize throughput and support rapid scaling of cell output.
“Our supply chain will provide resilience, visibility, and speed by design. From automation to sustainable transport, every aspect has been engineered to meet global standards while contributing to India’s clean energy mission,” said Anand Sodha.
Upon commissioning, the Sanand facility will not only serve as a cornerstone of Agratas’s manufacturing portfolio but also contribute to broader efforts in electrification and energy transition within the region.
