Global energy storage technology provider Fluence and ACE Engineering have officially opened a new automated manufacturing facility in Bac Giang Province, Vietnam, with an annual battery storage production capacity of 35 GWh. The plant will assemble Fluence’s latest Gridstack Pro and Smartstack energy storage systems using fully automated processes aimed at boosting productivity and quality control.
At full capacity, the facility could support deployment of approximately 8.75 GW of four-hour duration battery storage systems each year. Gridstack Pro, designed for front-of-the-meter applications by utilities and independent power producers, carries enhanced safety certifications, including UL 9540 and UL 9540A compliance, and is built for deployment in transmission-constrained areas. Smartstack targets commercial and industrial customers with a more compact footprint and integrated energy management capabilities.
According to Julian Nebreda, president and CEO of Fluence, the new facility will help provide the “next level of manufacturing excellence.”
“By combining advanced automation with rigorous quality standards, we believe we are optimally situated to meet stringent customer requirements and deliver competitively at the speed and scale the market demands,” Nebrada said.
Fluence reported third-quarter revenue of US $602.5 million for the period ending June 30, 2025, a 24.7 percent increase year-on-year. However, the company expects to reach only the lower end of its full-year revenue guidance due to delays in ramping up production at its U.S. sites. According to Wood Mackenzie’s 2024 rankings, Fluence fell out of the top five global battery energy storage system integrators by shipments, after placing second in 2022 and third in 2023.
About half of Fluence’s development pipeline is in the Americas, largely in the United States. The company sources cells from a Tennessee factory, operates a module plant in Utah, a component facility in Texas, and an enclosure assembly site in Arizona.
Vietnam follows Thailand as a strategic location for Southeast Asia manufacturing expansion. Other leading energy storage manufacturers, such as CATL and REPT Battero, are also investing in regional production capacity to serve growing demand for battery energy storage solutions.
