Geely Auto’s logistics arm, Jisu Logistics, has officially launched its first self-operated roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessel, marking the automaker’s entry into operating its own car carrier fleet. The ship, named Jisu Fortune, departed from the Port of Suzhou in eastern China’s Jiangsu province on May 22 for its maiden voyage to Europe.

Jisu Fortune is chartered by Jisu Logistics from Israeli shipowner Zodiac Maritime Ltd. The vessel measures 199.9 meters in length with a 38-meter beam and offers 7,000 standard loading spaces across 12 decks. All decks are configured to carry both conventional fuel vehicles and lithium-battery electric vehicles. Additionally, the top two decks (11 and 12) can accommodate new energy vehicles powered by hydrogen and natural gas.

On its inaugural trip, Jisu Fortune will transport more than 5,000 vehicles to the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Belgium. The vessel runs primarily on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is equipped with two 2,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tanks. This setup is reported to significantly reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides compared to traditional marine fuels.

The move follows similar steps by other Chinese automakers. BYD recently introduced its first two self-operated ro-ro vessels, BYD Explorer No. 1 and BYD Changzhou, also chartered from Zodiac Maritime. Last week, BYD launched its seventh car carrier, solidifying its position as one of the largest self-owned fleets among Chinese automakers.

In the first four months of 2025, Geely ranked second in China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market with 440,592 retail sales, representing a 13.3% market share, according to the China Passenger Car Association. BYD led the market with 964,940 NEV sales and a 29.0% share over the same period.
