QuantumScape Corporation has officially opened its Eagle Line pilot production facility in San Jose, California, showcasing its latest advances in solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The inauguration event included tours of the Eagle Line suite of equipment and processes, with attendance by automotive OEM representatives, industry partners and government officials.

The Eagle Line combines proprietary materials, fully automated production steps and QuantumScape’s patented Cobra process for creating its solid-state separator. Serving as a blueprint for future manufacturing, the pilot line is designed to produce battery cells for customer samples, performance testing, technology demonstrations and integration trials.

Once operating at full capacity, the Eagle Line will also illustrate how QuantumScape’s technology can be scaled to gigawatt-hour volumes by licensing partners in their own facilities. The site will act as a research and development platform, enabling engineers to refine processes and test next-generation improvements at a meaningful production scale.

“We’re proud to introduce the Eagle Line as a key milestone in bringing our solid-state technology closer to commercialization,” said Dr. Siva Sivaram, president and chief executive officer of QuantumScape. “This facility underscores our commitment to meeting customer demand for higher-performance batteries.”

Dr. Luca Fasoli, chief operating officer, noted that rapid deployment of the Cobra process allowed the team to accelerate development of the cell assembly steps. “Our focus has been on increasing output, automation and quality control,” Fasoli said. “The Eagle Line represents a significant technical achievement for our organization.”

QuantumScape’s solid-state batteries aim to deliver higher energy density, faster charge times and improved safety compared to conventional lithium-ion cells, supporting the automotive industry’s shift toward zero-emission vehicles. The Eagle Line pilot installation marks the company’s next phase of scaling and validation ahead of broader commercial production.
