On June 26, 2025, Rock Tech Lithium Inc. and Ronbay Technology Co., Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a fully localized, integrated lithium-ion battery materials supply chain in Europe. Under the agreement, Rock Tech will supply battery-grade lithium hydroxide from its upcoming Guben converter in Brandenburg, Germany, directly to Ronbay’s European cathode production facilities, including a recently acquired plant in Konin, Poland.
Ronbay has committed to provide technical support and explore potential investments to accelerate the development and ramp-up of the Guben converter. The Guben facility, situated on the German-Polish border, is designed to produce up to 24,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium hydroxide annually—enough to supply more than 500,000 electric vehicles per year. By leveraging Ronbay’s expertise and local engineering partners, Rock Tech aims to fast-track commissioning and ensure its products meet regional customer specifications.
Ronbay is a multinational high-tech materials company specializing in cathode active materials (CAM) for lithium and sodium batteries. Its portfolio includes mid- and high-nickel ternary cathodes, lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP), sodium-ion cathode materials, and precursor materials for CAM. As part of its European expansion strategy, Ronbay acquired the former Johnson Matthey cathode facility in Konin, where Phase I of a 25,000-ton mid- and high-nickel ternary materials project is underway. Equipment installation is expected to conclude in 2025, followed by commercial production in 2026.
The MoU outlines several collaborative initiatives: Rock Tech will supply lithium hydroxide to Ronbay’s European operations; Ronbay will introduce experienced engineering and construction partners for the Guben converter; and both parties will cooperate on market development, including supporting offtake commitments and customer acquisition in the battery and automotive sectors.
“Ronbay’s interest in sourcing lithium locally produced in Europe is a clear signal of strategic alignment. This partnership will act as a flywheel, accelerating and amplifying our shared commitment to building a resilient battery value chain in Europe” says Mirco Wojnarowicz, CEO of Rock Tech Lithium. “With Ronbay’s technical expertise and local CAM operations in Europe, we enhance our ability to fast-track execution and scale operations with greater efficiency.”
This framework MoU sets the stage for binding agreements based on mutual technical synergy and a shared commitment to accelerating Europe’s transition to clean energy storage and electric mobility.
