Comau is an Italian multinational corporation specializing in industrial automation, advanced robotics, and digital manufacturing systems. With more than 50 years of experience, Comau operates globally, providing solutions across various sectors, including automotive, heavy industry, and renewable energy. The company’s portfolio encompasses automated assembly systems, robotic solutions, and digital services, all designed to enhance manufacturing efficiency and flexibility. Comau’s international presence in 11 countries allows it to respond rapidly to evolving customer demands worldwide, solidifying its role as an enabler of manufacturing processes across different industries.

Battery Technology

Comau holds a position in the battery production ecosystem by specializing in automation, systems integration, and digital infrastructure. Rather than focusing on chemical innovation or raw material production, Comau’s solutions span multiple stages of the battery lifecycle. These include cell manufacturing for cylindrical, pouch, and prismatic cells, module and pack assembly, and battery tray manufacturing. Comau also develops automation for integrating batteries into electric vehicles. The company’s processes are designed to manage the discharging, dismantling, and sorting of end-of-life batteries, facilitating repurposing, reuse, and recycling. Through these offerings, Comau supports the transition to a circular economy for battery materials.

Comau provides automation solutions that cover cell assembly, formation, testing, and module and pack assembly for lithium-ion batteries. Their advanced dry room laboratory, opened in July 2025, offers a controlled environment essential for sensitive battery chemistries, allowing for process optimization and the development of next-generation batteries like solid-state and lithium-metal technologies. Comau is also integrating cold plasma techniques into cell production lines in partnership with Intecells, aiming to eliminate solvents and binders, reduce cycle times, and enhance cell quality.

Recent Projects

Comau has recently been recognized by Volvo Cars for delivery excellence and strategic partnership, highlighting its contributions to the automotive sector. The company showcased wearable exoskeletons, such as MATE, at SAFETY 2025, demonstrating innovations for workplace safety. Comau also unveiled smart, mobile, and collaborative automation solutions at Automatica 2025. Additionally, the company developed an in-house dry room for cell manufacturing solutions and presented scalable stator manufacturing and e-drive assembly innovations at CWIEME Shanghai 2025.

Investors

Comau’s current ownership structure involves One Equity Partners (OEP) as the majority shareholder, providing resources for expansion and autonomy across various sectors. Stellantis N.V., the automotive company and Comau’s historical parent, remains a minority shareholder. This arrangement allows Comau to maintain strong ties to its core automotive market while pursuing independent growth. Prior to December 2024, Comau was wholly owned by Stellantis (and previously Fiat/FCA).
