ABF produces Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cells, featuring safety and lifespan up to 10,000 cycles or 20-30 years. They use advanced Z-folding cell designs to enhance power density and charging efficiency. Their manufacturing process includes fully automated lines with slurry systems and cathode/anode laser chambers. The company is also developing Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate (LMFP) technology that provides about 20% more energy density than traditional LFP.
ABF’s battery solutions serve sectors including portable solar generators, grid-scale energy storage, data center backup power, telecommunications infrastructure, agricultural and commercial equipment, and specialized defense applications.
In 2023, ABF began constructing a $1.2 billion gigafactory in Tucson, Arizona, which will include their global headquarters, R&D center, and a 2 x 2 GWh factory module, expected to complete in 2026 and create around 1,000 jobs. They also partnered with KAN Battery Co., Ltd. to use a 1 GWh factory line in China for high-capacity prismatic cell production while domestic facilities develop.
Lion Energy: initial incubator and Series A investor with an 18 GWh cell offtake agreement; FNA Group: Series A investor providing manufacturing technology support; an undisclosed battery-cell equipment manufacturer; strategic partnership with Honeywell for automation and digitalization technologies.
