Company Overview

Grafintec Oy is a Finnish graphite technology company dedicated to developing crucial graphite resources and production capabilities to support Finland’s and Europe’s journey toward self-sufficient battery manufacturing. The company is strategically positioned within the Nordic battery manufacturing hub, with its headquarters in Vaasa, Finland. Grafintec emphasizes sustainable and responsible mining and production practices for graphite materials, which are essential to the battery value chain. Its core activities include the production of natural graphite, implementing circular economy and recycling strategies, and manufacturing graphite anodes for the rapidly expanding lithium-ion battery industry. Wholly owned by Beowulf Mining plc, Grafintec aims to fill a significant gap in Europe’s battery material supply chain.

Battery Technology

Grafintec’s core technology focuses on the production of coated spherical graphite anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, using spheronization to shape particles and thermal cleaning to achieve purities over 99.95%. The company sources natural flake graphite from its Aitolampi deposit and recycled inputs, and is developing a Graphite Anode Materials Plant (GAMP) with sustainable, non-hazardous purification and shaping processes, R&D in wastewater valorization, chemical recovery, and zero-waste operations.

Products

Coated spherical graphite anode materials with particle shaping via spheronization and thermal cleaning, >99.95% purity, sourced from natural and recycled graphite; the planned Graphite Anode Materials Plant (GAMP) enhances battery energy density, charge rate, and lifecycle.

Recent Projects

Site reservation in Kotka for GAMP (2025); GAMP Pre-Feasibility Study (2025) with €924 million NPV and 37% IRR; extension of Pitkäjärvi (Aitolampi) mining exploration license (2025); application extension for Rääpysjärvi exploration area (2025); participation in the Bioboost lignin project (2025).

Investors

Wholly owned by Beowulf Mining plc, a publicly listed UK-Swedish mining company, serving as the sole shareholder.
