Company Overview

Imerys S.A. is a French multinational leader in mineral-based specialty solutions, based in Paris. It operates over 200 facilities in more than 50 countries with over 16,000 employees. In 2023 it reported €4.5 billion in revenue. Its Industrial Minerals division supplies kaolin, talc, calcium carbonate, mica and graphite. The company focuses on extracting, processing and transforming natural minerals to enhance conductivity, durability and purity across energy, construction, automotive, paper and consumer goods, investing 3.5 % of revenue in sustainable R&D.

Battery Technology

Imerys extracts and processes critical minerals for lithium-ion batteries, supplying graphite for anodes and lithium compounds. Its specialty minerals include conductive carbon blacks (SUPER P® Li, ENSACO®, C-NERGY™) and synthetic/natural graphite grades (KS6L, SFG6L). These additives enhance electrical conductivity, energy density, charging speed and cycle life by reducing internal resistance in EV, consumer electronics and energy storage batteries.

Products

Conductive carbon blacks: SUPER P® Li, ENSACO®, C-NERGY™; synthetic/natural graphite grades: KS6L, SFG6L, used as additives in battery electrodes, separators and electrolytes to improve performance.

Recent Projects

Imerys British Lithium in Cornwall, United Kingdom, is developing battery-grade lithium carbonate for 500,000 EVs annually. The EMILI project in Allier, France (Échassières underground mine, concentration plant, Saint-Victor conversion facility) targets 34,000 t/year lithium hydroxide for 700,000 EVs. Conductive carbon black production is also expanding in Belgium.
