Legal & General Capital (LGC) is the investment arm of Legal & General Group plc, a London-based financial services company founded in 1836. As part of a group with over £1 trillion in assets under management, LGC draws on extensive resources to invest long-term capital in public and private markets. With more than £57 billion in private assets under management at the end of 2024, the firm supports institutional clients and pension schemes, using its own balance sheet to originate and develop new opportunities across the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States.
LGC concentrates on sectors that deliver financial returns and societal benefits. Its private market capabilities include real estate equity, corporate and infrastructure debt, and infrastructure equity, supported by multi-asset strategies. The firm also offers institutional investors access to emerging companies through a venture capital platform that partners with universities and specialist managers. Target areas include affordable housing, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and innovative technologies that address pressing social and environmental needs.
Through direct venture capital investments, LGC has backed several pioneers in energy technology. Key holdings include Brill Power, an Oxford University spinout focused on advanced battery management; Sero Technologies, which develops decarbonization solutions for the housing sector; a 36% equity stake in Kensa Group, provider of ground source heat pumps; and SunRoof, maker of integrated solar roof systems. Additional investments in Cambridge Electric Cement and Hometree support low-emissions manufacturing and green home upgrades. LGC also offers thematic funds such as the L&G Battery Value-Chain UCITS ETF, providing exposure to battery production, materials and recycling, and the L&G NTR Clean Power (Europe) Fund, co-managed with NTR to target wind, solar, and storage assets across Europe.
