Company Overview

EAS Batteries GmbH, founded in 1996 as GAIA Akkumulatorenwerke GmbH in Nordhausen, Germany, merged with HAWKER in 2011 to form EAS Germany GmbH. With approximately 40 employees and a production capacity of 10 MWh annually, the company manufactures customized high-performance lithium-ion battery systems for maritime, aerospace, construction, defense, and stationary power applications.

Battery Technology

EAS Batteries focuses on large format cylindrical lithium-ion cells, notably its XNO 4690 cylindrical cell technology with fast charging and high energy density, and a patented tab-less contacting system for reduced impedance and enhanced current performance. The EASy Marine system uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry in a modular design with maritime certifications, and custom Battery Management Systems (BMS). Their industrial cells feature advanced safety and thermal management for harsh environments, including mining, construction, and marine applications.

Products

XNO 4690 cylindrical lithium-ion cells with fast charging and high energy density; EASy Marine modular LFP battery system with maritime certification and custom BMS; industrial cells with enhanced safety features and thermal management for demanding conditions.

Recent Projects

In 2024, EAS Batteries launched the High-E-Life research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research to improve cylindrical lithium-ion cells with laser-structured electrodes for advanced modular marine battery systems.

Investors

EAS Batteries GmbH was owned by Monbat Group from 2017 until 2022. In 2022, Britishvolt planned to acquire the company for €36M, but the deal did not materialize. As of 2024, EAS Batteries GmbH remains part of Monbat Group and is exploring strategic partnerships.
