LISHEN (Tianjin Lishen Battery Joint-Stock Co., Ltd.) is a major Chinese enterprise dedicated to the research, development, and manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries and related advanced energy storage technologies. Established in 1997, LISHEN has been a pioneer in China’s battery industry, accumulating over two decades of experience. It operates as a state-holding high-tech firm, with its principal controlling shareholder being China Chengtong Holdings Group Ltd. This structure positions LISHEN with strong governmental backing while also attracting strategic investors and fostering collaborative ventures. The company plays a critical role in the global energy transition by providing diversified battery solutions for various sectors.

Battery Technology

LISHEN’s technological capabilities cover the entire lithium-ion battery production process, from cell design (cylindrical, prismatic, and polymer cells) to integrated battery packs and sophisticated Battery Management Systems (BMS). The company’s annual production capacity exceeds 31 GWh, supporting a broad array of applications including consumer electronics, electric vehicles, and large-scale energy storage systems. LISHEN is an innovator in next-generation battery chemistries such as sodium-ion and potassium-ion batteries, which often feature enhanced safety, faster charging, and improved low-temperature performance compared to traditional lithium-ion.

Furthermore, LISHEN is developing semi-solid batteries, which bridge the gap between liquid and solid-state technologies by offering higher energy densities for transportation and industrial logistics. A significant focus is on solid-state battery technology, with plans for mass production of third-generation semi-solid batteries by 2025. These are projected to achieve impressive energy densities of up to 500 Wh/kg, support 9C flash charging, and deliver over 2000 charge cycles, targeting applications in fields like low-altitude aerial vehicles (UAV/UAM). The company is validating new chemistries such as ternary manganese iron lithium, manganese iron phosphate lithium, and various fast-charging lithium iron phosphate battery variants up to 6C.

Recent Projects and Highlights

LISHEN has been involved in several notable developments recently. The commercial operation of its Chuzhou Base commenced, expanding its manufacturing footprint. The company launched a 5.016 MWh energy storage battery container system for international markets, alongside new fluid-cooled and air-cooled battery modules designed for high-capacity energy storage with minimal degradation. LISHEN has engaged in significant industry events, including The Battery Show North America and the 136th Canton Fair, demonstrating its global market presence. A key collaboration involved the commissioning of a marine energy storage joint base with Sinoma Energy Conservation Ltd., highlighting its expansion into specialized applications. Its partnership with Siemens aims to implement digital transformation across production for improved traceability and smart manufacturing.
