Battery Technology

Qkera’s main innovation is its proprietary ceramic-oxide solid electrolyte, designed specifically for next-generation battery systems. The technology offers several distinct advantages over traditional lithium-ion batteries. Their electrolytes achieve thicknesses between 1-20 μm, resulting in higher energy density and mechanical stability. The manufacturing process utilizes abundant raw materials and operates at lower synthesis temperatures, significantly reducing production costs and environmental impact.

The company’s solid electrolyte technology enables energy density improvements of 30 to 50 percent compared to conventional batteries. This advancement translates to extended ranges for electric vehicles and faster charging times. The ceramic-oxide material’s non-flammable properties enhance safety while supporting the use of lithium iron phosphate cathodes, which can be sourced within Europe. This reduces dependence on materials from geopolitically sensitive regions.

Qkera’s manufacturing approach is compatible with roll-to-roll production methods, making it suitable for large-scale industrial applications. The electrolyte can integrate with various electrode materials, offering flexibility for different battery designs and applications.

Recent Projects

As of early 2025, Qkera has gained significant recognition in the industry. The company won the 2024 Falling Walls Foundation competition and secured third place in Energie Startup Bayern 2024. They also achieved success at the E-Conversion Start-Up Day 2024. Qkera plans to deliver prototypes to battery manufacturers for testing and integration by the end of 2024, marking a significant step toward commercialization.
