Altilium is deploying Materia AI's cloud-native ReGenTrace AI across the UK EV battery recycling network to automate feedstock management, predictive modeling and process optimization, enhancing metal recovery, circularity and traceability.

On July 14, 2026, Altilium announced the deployment of ReGenTrace AI, a cloud-native analytics and digital traceability platform developed by Materia AI, across its UK electric vehicle battery recycling operations. The platform will serve as the digital operating system for Altilium’s recycling network, supporting the company’s transition from clean‐technology innovator to a fully integrated sustainable critical‐materials platform.

ReGenTrace AI will be instrumental in scaling up Altilium’s ACT3 commercial recycling facility in Plymouth. It automates feedstock management, applies predictive economic modeling, and optimizes throughput to ensure efficient, commercially viable operations at high volumes. By integrating industrial recycling processes with AI-driven decision making, the platform helps build a more resilient and circular EV battery supply chain in line with the UK’s industrial strategy.

Originally founded by Altilium Chief Operating Officer Dr. Christian Marston as a deep‐tech start-up, Materia AI received support through Innovate UK’s Early Stage Growth Catalyst programme during the development of its minimum viable product. Following successful validation, Materia AI has been fully integrated into the Altilium group, enabling rapid rollout of ReGenTrace AI across all commercial sites.

Dr. Marston noted that establishing intelligent, connected supply chains is essential for the UK’s leadership in battery technology. “By combining advanced recycling with digital intelligence, we can build a traceable, circular supply chain for critical battery materials and strengthen the competitiveness of the automotive sector,” he said.

ReGenTrace AI uses machine learning, computer vision and advanced analytics to automatically identify incoming battery chemistries, formats, state of health and safety characteristics. After mechanical processing, it predicts the composition of black mass—including concentrations of lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and graphite—and anticipates impurities that affect downstream refining. This enables real‐time adjustments to reagent use, blending strategies, refining conditions and production schedules, reducing energy consumption and waste while boosting metal recovery and overall process efficiency. As operations progress, the platform continuously refines its predictions based on actual outcomes.

Beyond process optimization, ReGenTrace AI creates a secure digital thread linking end‐of‐life batteries through every phase of recycling to production of battery‐grade materials. This full‐chain traceability supports emerging Battery Passport requirements and offers customers transparency on recycled content, carbon footprint and material provenance. Future integration with Altilium’s recell.store marketplace will automate battery valuation and connect collection, testing, logistics and recycling in a seamless digital ecosystem.

By uniting proprietary hydrometallurgical technology, industrial facilities and AI in a single scalable platform, Altilium aims to accelerate innovation, enhance operational performance and lay the groundwork for a robust domestic supply chain that can support UK gigafactories, automotive OEMs and national clean‐energy ambitions.
