BASF Battery Materials has renewed a long-term supply agreement for cathode active materials (CAM) sourced from its Schwarzheide plant in Germany. This extension follows the recent global framework agreement BASF signed with a leading battery cell manufacturer, reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting Europe’s e-mobility value chain.

“We are happy to extend our existing supply agreement for the CAM plant in Schwarzheide. This illustrates our customers’ confidence in our innovative products and the high-quality production processes behind,” said Dr. Daniel Schönfelder, President of BASF’s Battery Materials division. “With this strengthened customer setup for our European CAM operations, we feel well positioned for the future.”

Under the renewed terms, BASF will continue supplying high-performance CAM produced at its fully automated Schwarzheide facility. This plant is currently the only large-scale, fully automated production site for advanced cathode materials in Europe, and the sole facility of its kind in Germany. The agreement underscores customer confidence in BASF’s production processes and innovative product portfolio.

BASF’s Schwarzheide site plays a critical role in the company’s global Battery Materials network. It benefits from integrated base-metal sourcing, advanced R&D platforms, and recycling solutions designed to enhance resource efficiency. Alongside production, BASF leverages its research centers to optimize material performance, tailor formulations for specific cell designs, and support sustainable end-of-life management.

The renewed supply agreement aligns with broader industry efforts to secure reliable, localized sources of battery materials amid growing electric vehicle adoption. By maintaining long-term partnerships with cell manufacturers and automotive OEMs, BASF aims to stabilize the supply chain and reduce dependency on imports.

BASF’s Battery Materials business continues to expand its global footprint, investing in production capacity and collaborative research. Through its combined capabilities in materials development, process engineering, and circular economy solutions, the division seeks to drive innovation and facilitate the transition to electromobility.
