Basquevolt has received a €2.5 million grant from the European Innovation Council’s Accelerator program, with the possibility of securing up to €10 million in equity investment during its next fundraising round. Awarded a top evaluation score of 9 out of 9, the company’s solid-state electrolyte technology was recognized for its technical innovation and strong alignment with the European Union’s battery value chain strategy.
Selected from a pool of 1,000 applicants—only 4 percent of which received funding—Basquevolt is positioned to become a leading supplier of solid-state battery electrolytes for electric mobility and energy storage in Europe. Its electrolyte formulation is reported to enable more than 50 percent higher energy density compared to conventional battery chemistries, promising improvements in electric vehicle range and safety while supporting the EU’s sustainable urban mobility objectives.
The grant will be used to scale up industrial production and integrate the new electrolyte into existing lithium-ion manufacturing lines. This approach is expected to lower production costs and accelerate market adoption by leveraging established battery cell fabrication processes. By advancing solid-state electrolyte technology within current production infrastructures, Basquevolt aims to drive down barriers to commercialization and contribute to Europe’s broader energy transition goals.
Since March 2025, Basquevolt has been led by Managing Director Pablo Fernández Santos. The company’s development roadmap is supported by partnerships with regional and national stakeholders, including the Basque Government, CIC energiGUNE, Iberdrola, CDTI Innvierte, Enagás, InnoEnergy, Ekarpen, Stellum, and CIE Automotive. The EIC Accelerator jury also highlighted the strength of Basquevolt’s collaboration with CIC energiGUNE, a prominent solid-state battery research center.
Earlier in 2025, Basquevolt announced collaborations with two major automotive OEMs as it advances its industrial rollout. The latest funding from the EIC Accelerator reinforces the company’s role in bringing next-generation solid-state battery components to market.
