Chinese battery manufacturer Farasis Energy has secured an order to supply more than 10 gigawatt-hours of its Super Pouch Solution (SPS) lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery systems for two European variants of GAC Aion models. The batteries will power the Aion V and Aion UT European versions, which are expected to become GAC Aion’s primary electric vehicle offerings in the region.
Under the agreement, Farasis will deliver sufficient capacity to equip approximately 100,000 vehicles with 100-kilowatt-hour battery packs. The SPS system is built around large-format pouch cells and integrated battery management technology. According to Farasis, this configuration delivers extended driving range, rapid-charging capability, enhanced safety performance, reduced production costs, and strong adaptability and scalability for future model updates.
This contract marks a key milestone in Farasis’ efforts to expand its SPS battery products into overseas markets. To date, the company’s SPS solutions have been deployed on several vehicle platforms, including Geely’s Radar RD6 Horizon electric pickup and GAC Aion’s second-generation Aion V and Aion UT, covering pickups, sedans, and SUVs. Farasis has maintained a multi-year collaboration with GAC Aion, supplying battery systems for multiple model lines within the GAC Group’s electric vehicle subsidiary.
Although Farasis is recognized for its growing technological capabilities, it remains a smaller participant in China’s power battery sector. Data from the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance indicate that in October, Farasis installed 0.003 GWh of ternary lithium batteries—approximately 0.02 percent of the national market—placing it 12th in that segment. The company did not rank among the top 15 in overall battery installations for the month.
By securing this large-scale European order, Farasis aims to reinforce its international footprint and underscore the competitiveness of its SPS LFP pouch cell technology across a diverse array of electric vehicle applications.
