Imerys Graphite and Carbon Switzerland Ltd. (IGC), a subsidiary of Imerys SA and a global leader in conductive carbon black, has formed a strategic partnership with Jiangsu Cnano Technology Co., Ltd., an established manufacturer of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Announced on July 23, 2025, the collaboration aims to develop next-generation conductive additives that combine carbon black and multi-wall carbon nanotubes to enhance performance in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs).
Under this agreement, IGC and Cnano will leverage their respective expertise in carbon black and CNT technologies to create tailored formulations designed to improve electrical conductivity, energy density, and long-term cycling stability. Both companies cite growing demand for advanced battery materials that can help reduce total cost of ownership while supporting automotive OEMs’ and battery makers’ sustainability targets.
Frank Wittchen, General Manager of Imerys Graphite & Carbon, stated, “We believe in the power of collaboration to drive innovation. Combining our expertise will enable us to bring faster, new, and improved solutions to our customers in a growing market. This aligns perfectly with our strategy to drive progress in important sectors and contribute positively to the global energy transition.”
Samples of the new conductive additive blends will be available upon request, with commercial-scale production scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025.
The companies expect their joint solutions to support next-generation EV batteries by enhancing charge/discharge rates, extending cycle life, and contributing to more sustainable battery manufacturing processes.
