LG Energy Solution, known for its electric vehicle battery production, is expanding its operations into software and energy storage systems (ESS) to complement its core battery business. This move follows the company’s strategic vision to evolve beyond hardware by developing software-driven services such as battery management systems (BMS) and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) offerings, including leasing, rental and recycling solutions.
A key component of this strategy is B.around, the company’s integrated solutions brand. B.around leverages artificial intelligence and cloud computing to monitor battery safety, estimate remaining capacity and assess degradation in real time. According to the company, the platform’s algorithm incorporates data from multiple vehicle types to improve predictive accuracy, achieving an error margin below two percent—the lowest claimed in the industry globally. The brand also supports software-defined vehicle platforms, enabling remote updates and feature enhancements.
In addition to B.around, LG Energy Solution has introduced B-Lifecare, a service that allows EV drivers to track battery health via a smartphone application paired with a home-based data collection device. This tool offers users a straightforward way to stay informed about battery performance and maintenance needs.
Beyond the automotive sector, the company is applying its battery expertise to robotics. In November, it signed a memorandum of understanding with autonomous mobility platform developer Bear Robotics to supply battery cells and collaborate on future technology development. This partnership underscores the broader applicability of advanced battery solutions in emerging industries.
On the ESS front, LG Energy Solution has secured several procurement contracts over the past year in North America and Europe. These projects span from residential storage installations to large-scale power distribution networks, highlighting the company’s commitment to supporting renewable energy integration and grid stability.
“We will not only rely on EVs but also advance new growth engines. Banking on AI, we will continue to develop software and service businesses to escape the EV chasm,” a company representative said. This focus on software, services and diversified applications positions LG Energy Solution to address evolving market demands across the energy transition.
