Minespider, a Berlin-based traceability software provider for battery and mineral supply chains, has launched the MVP of Recircle.market, a digital ecosystem designed to streamline Europe’s circular battery economy. Introduced on February 16, 2026, the platform connects stakeholders across the entire electric vehicle (EV) battery life cycle, including reuse, repair, refurbishment, recycling and related services.

Built as part of the RECIRCULATE project under Horizon Europe funding, Recircle.market addresses key obstacles to large-scale battery reuse and recycling—namely fragmented data, limited visibility of battery quality and complex transaction processes. The marketplace establishes a shared digital infrastructure to improve coordination and data exchange among battery owners, recyclers, second-life operators, OEMs and service providers such as logistics, testing, diagnostics and repair firms.

Key features of Recircle.market include:

  • Listing and trading of second-life batteries backed by verified technical and lifecycle data
  • Sourcing of recycled battery materials and components
  • Offering and requesting specialized services, including testing, diagnostics, logistics, dismantling, refurbishment and certification
  • A networking environment for battery manufacturers, OEMs, recyclers and service providers

A core architectural element is integration with Digital Battery Passports (DBPs) and Digital Product Passports (DPPs), which provide transparent information on battery origin, chemistry, performance history and sustainability indicators. This data-driven approach supports enhanced market transparency, risk mitigation and compliance with the upcoming EU Battery Regulation and Ecodesign for Sustainable Products requirements.

Recircle.market leverages passport data—such as state of health, performance metrics and dynamic usage data—to increase trust and efficiency while reducing transaction times and costs. With DBPs set to become mandatory in February 2027, the marketplace is positioned to capture critical data from launch.

In its MVP stage, the platform allows users—including OEMs, battery and component sellers, service providers and recyclers—to register, publish product and service listings and connect directly with potential buyers and partners. Further development will incorporate industry feedback, regulatory updates and sustainability standards.

“With Recircle.market, we are building the digital backbone for Europe’s circular battery economy – connecting data, materials and market actors in one interoperable ecosystem,” said Volker Krümpel, Co-Founder and General Counsel at Minespider. “This MVP is a first step towards scalable and trusted battery reuse and recycling markets.”

Through this development pathway, Minespider and the RECIRCULATE consortium aim to contribute to the establishment of a scalable, interoperable and data-driven digital infrastructure supporting Europe’s circular battery economy.
