On March 5, 2026, NextStar Energy formally inaugurated its state-of-the-art battery manufacturing facility in Windsor, Ontario, marking Canada’s first and only commercial-scale plant dedicated to advanced battery production. The 4.23 million-square-foot site has already produced over one million battery cells since commencing full production in November 2025, underscoring rapid scale-up capabilities and strong demand for energy storage beyond electric vehicles.

Attendees at the ceremony included NextStar Energy CEO Danies Lee, LG Energy Solution CEO David Kim, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Canada’s Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly, and South Korea’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Resources Jung-Kwan Kim, alongside other federal, provincial and community leaders. Their remarks highlighted the plant’s role in strengthening domestic supply chains and supporting multiple end-use sectors such as AI data centers, utility grids, municipal infrastructure and e-commerce platforms.

Since the joint venture between LG Energy Solution and Stellantis was announced in March 2022, the project has attracted CAD 5 billion in investment and created 1,300 direct jobs, with a target of 2,500 once the facility reaches full capacity. Key construction milestones included ground-breaking in November 2022, topping-out in December 2023, the start of module production in October 2024, completion of construction in September 2025 and the hiring of the 1,000th employee in October 2025. In February 2026, LG Energy Solution assumed full ownership of NextStar Energy.

The Windsor plant is designed to produce high-performance battery cells for advanced energy storage systems that will support Canada’s transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy economy. By integrating large-scale manufacturing with a skilled workforce and cutting-edge processes, NextStar Energy aims to position Canada as a global leader in advanced manufacturing and clean energy solutions.
