SAIC-Volkswagen has confirmed that its new Passat ePro plug-in hybrid sedan is slated to enter the market in 2026. First unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show, the vehicle builds on SAIC-Volkswagen’s latest-generation PHEV platform and features a refreshed exterior design language.
At the front, the Passat ePro introduces “Tech Smart Eye” LED headlights linked by a through-type LED light strip, along with an illuminated brand logo. The side profile emphasizes a stretched wheelbase, while the rear design incorporates horizontal lines, wing-spread LED taillights, and a red illuminated logo.
The sedan measures 5,017 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,489 mm in height, riding on a 2,871 mm wheelbase. Customers can select between 17-inch and 18-inch wheel designs. Inside, the cabin adopts a wide, integrated layout enhanced by layered wrapping techniques. Technology features include a 12.9-inch central touchscreen, a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an additional entertainment display for the front passenger.
Powering the Passat ePro is a hybrid system that pairs an EA211 1.5T EVO II engine—tuned specifically for hybrid operation and rated at 95 kW—with an electric motor that delivers up to 145 kW (194 hp). The vehicle’s 22 kWh battery pack allows for a CLTC-rated pure electric driving range in excess of 150 km, while the combined electric and fuel range reaches approximately 1,300 km.
The Passat series, positioned in the mid-size segment, has shown strong performance in China. Between January and October 2025, cumulative sales reached 187,807 units, making it the top-selling joint-venture mid-size passenger car over that period. In September 2024, the model line was rebranded as the Passat Pro, and the Passat ePro marks the first hybrid introduction in the Volkswagen Pro family.
